Attorney General

R) Mark Shurtleff

 

Term:

The attorney general holds office for four years beginning on the first Monday of January after their election.

 

 

Qualifications:

To be eligible for attorney general a person must:

     a) be 25 years of age or older at the time of the election

     b) have been a resident of the state for five years preceding the election

     c) admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court

     d) in good standing at the bar at the time of the election

     e) be a qualified voter

          Qualified voter:

               1) U.S. Citizen

               2) a resident of Utah for at least 30 days prior to the next election

               3) at least 18 years old by the next election

               4) their principal place of residence is in a specific voting precinct in Utah

 

Filing:

Any person interested in becoming a candidate for this seat must file a declaration of candidacy with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

 

Fees:

The filing fee is equal to 1/8 of 1% of the total salary paid for the full term of office to the person holding the office.
